Utilizing expertise in mental health, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) applies the nursing process, critical thinking, problem-solving and enhanced communication skills to provide care to clients to enable them to function at an optimal level of wellness through more effective adaptive behaviors and increased resilience to stress. The RPN assesses plans, coordinates, supervises, implements and evaluates the provision of nursing care and healthcare resources. The RPN acts as the liaison between the interdisciplinary team and other providers of care and service to support the client. The Registered Psychiatric Nurse accepts responsibility for continuing competencies through ongoing professional development, including participation in education programs, research and continuous quality activities.Key Responsibilities: Establishes a therapeutic relationship and provides, within the framework of holistic professional nursing practice, initial and ongoing assessment of clients by collecting and analyzing information from objective and subjective sources.Assesses relevant information and data regarding client's beliefs/values system, lifestyle, interests and ability to participate in their care, and other factors impacting successful treatment outcomes.Communicates nursing diagnosis to the client, interdisciplinary health care team and other providers of care and service.Identifies and assesses crisis situations and intervenes as appropriate.Develops and prioritizes an effective, individualized plan of client care, incorporating the contributions of the client, interdisciplinary health care team and other providers of care and service, facilitating continuity of careEnsures the implementation and ongoing administration of the individualized client care plan within the context of the therapeutic relationshipInterprets information including diagnosis and treatment plans related to client functioning to client and responds to client questions and concernsPromotes client involvement and understand health care practices, processes and resources by providing information and instruction to assist/support client with activities of daily living.Retrieves and interprets data to evaluate nursing activities and interventions Consults with the client, interdisciplinary health team and other providers of care and service to discuss changes related to client status and intervenes as appropriate. Qualifications:Formal Education: Graduation from an accredited psychiatric nursing program; RPN required.Experience: Aspen Regional Health hires new graduate nurses with the required educational requirements as aboveAt least one year relevant nursing experience desired. License(s), Certificate(s), Professional Membership(s): Certification as may be required within the scope of the position assignment (see addendum if applicable)Basic Life Support (CPR): Targeted ResponderRegistration with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of AlbertaAspen RHA requires that health services provider be registered as a regulated member by their applicable College and that the health services provider provide proof of their registration upon request of Aspen RHA.The College of a profession provides the ability to work in Full Scope of Practice, including restricted activities that are authorized by the regulations of the profession. However, Aspen RHA reserves the right to limit the use of providing these restricted activities until the health services provider can successfully prove competency of these activities to the satisfaction of Aspen RHA.
